Join our staff biologists and archaeologists and discover some of the greatest natural and cultural treasures of the region.
At Steller Sea Kayaking, we offer guided wilderness tours in coastal British Columbia, exploring one of the most complex coastlines in the world.
Stretching nearly 27,000km, this coastline includes islands and islets, headlands and rocky shores, reefs, inlets, sandy beaches, tide pools, lagoons and estuaries. The result is a rich ecosystem supporting over 4,000 invertebrates, fishes, marine mammals and birds.
Kayaking in the Pacific Ocean, we often see some of the largest
vertebrates on earth - humpback whales, grey whales, and the charismatic orca whales that live in close-knit social groups. Other mammals include small minke whales, the huge Steller and California sea lions, harbour seals, Sea otters, Pacific
white-sided dolphins, and Dall's porpoise.
In the coastal temperate rainforest we explore beneath the canopy of Western hemlock, Western red cedar, and sitka spruce. The forest here contains the largest trees in Canada and some of the oldest living organisms on earth. Commonly seen animals include black bears, black-tailed deer, cougars,
river otters, Douglas squirrels, bald eagles, great blue herons,
pileated woodpeckers, Steller's jays, and ravens.
Our
five and six-day guided
tours allow enough time to experience the "rhythm of
the sea" while discovering the amazing wildlife that lives
among the islands, reefs, beaches, and rainforests of coastal BC. |
Our goal is to make your outdoor adventure as exhilarating for the mind as it is for the body!
This is the perfect environment for adventure, exploration, and relaxation. Our
state of the art kayaks are stable and swift which makes them the perfect vehicle for
coastal explorarion and unobtrusive wildlife viewing.
As
you thread your way through secret passages between magical islands,
it will be easy to imagine the wild and rugged coastline as it
must have appeared thousands of years ago. You'll learn about
the prehistoric settlement of the coast by the ancestors of the Nuu-chah-nulth and Kwakwaka'wakw people who arrived on the coast over 10,000 years before European explorers and traders.
Our commitment to ecoliteracy is well-represented among our guides who hold advanced degrees in biology and science, wildlife management, anthropology, archaeology, education and community planning. So you'll enjoy learning
about plant and
animal life, intertidal biology, local First Nations history, European explorers, and the colorful local lore of coastal BC.
Whether you choose one of our wildlife tours, cultual tours, or skills development tours, you’ll enjoy world-class kayaking in pristine wilderness environments teeming with wildlife.
