At
Steller Sea Kayaking we offer guided wilderness tours
that explore the most complex biological interface on the planet
- the intertidal zone along the coast of British Columbia. The intertidal
zone in BC encompasses nearly 27,000 km (16,900 mi) of coastline
that includes islands and islets, rocky shores and headlands, reefs,
inlets, sandy beaches, estuaries, and tidal lagoons. The waters
here contain over 3,800 species of invertebrates.
To
the west lies the Pacific Ocean which contains some of the largest
vertebrates on earth, such as Humpback whales and Orca whales, as
well as Steller and California sea lions, harbour seals, Pacific
white sided dolphins, and Dalls porpoise.
To
the east lies the coastal temperate rainforest which is one of the
most biologically productive ecosystems in
the world, and home to Roosevelt elk, black-tailed deer, cougar,
black bear, river otter, Douglas squirrel, bald eagle, western robin,
winter wren, pileated woodpecker, stellers jay, gray jay, junco,
and raven.
The
Clayoquot Biosphere Reserve contains the largest remaining stand
of coastal temperate rainforest
on earth. Bathed in winter rain and summer fog the rainforest is
home to many of the largest and oldest trees in the world: Sitka
Spruce, Western Red Cedar, and Western Hemlock.
Our
Guides have fascinating backgrounds and have been paddling and
guiding trips along the BC coast for years. You'll enjoy learning
about local First Nations history, European settlement, plant and
animal life, intertidal biology, and local lore. Not to mention the
fascinating things we learn from each other!

Coastal
British Columbia ranks as one of the premier kayaking destinations
in the world. Hours after putting our kayaks in the water you'll
be exploring an ecosystem as rich in wildlife as it is in history,
and mystery. This is the perfect
environment for adventure, exploration, and relaxation. Our
state of the art kayaks
are stable and swift which makes them the perfect vehicle for

of early european explorers and merchants.
