The information
on these pages
is considerably
brief and
intended as
a basic introduction
to the natural
and cultural
history of
coastal Vancouver
Island. Except
for brief
journal entries
by members
of the Vancouver
expedition
of 1792, there
is no historical
information
prior to the
Hudson's Bay
Company in
the 1820s,
and none that
was very systematically
gathered until
the 1860s.
Much of the
information
that follows
is based on
historic records
and ethnographic
work conducted
between 1890
and 1940.
The information
is by no means
complete and
is meant only
to spark your
curiosity
about what
you may learn
while padldling
with us. We'll
be adding
to these topics
in the future
so please
check back.
